Flashmobs and Failing Fast

This past year has been: amazing. upsetting. hilarious. disillusioning. exhilarating. It has been full of a lot of travel and new experiences, many important conversations and much questioning. A year in review, in a slightly different format: LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM: Game Theory: Words cannot describe how much I loved this class. Our professor was … Read more

I’m feeling a little homesick for Bangalore these days (although I’ll wandering soon enough, I’ll be in London this summer and in Beijing from August-January!), so I thought I’d put together five lessons learned from my travel experiences from India that are essential for anyone who wants to try to experience life like a local. … Read more

People Who Say “Branding Is Important” Don’t Know What They’re Talking About

As a designer, I’m always explaining to clients that branding is important. One of my professors said in office hours the other day, “Those people who are always talking about how important branding is don’t know what they’re talking about. They take the ‘branding is important’ mantra as a given, but they never bother to … Read more

Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me, “What would you do if you were in a class and you felt as if the environment of the classroom was uncomfortably male-dominated?” I asked what she meant, and she went on, “For example, when we present our research proposals, I feel as if the only students shooting … Read more

Bad Aid, Privilege and Doing Good to Feel Good

I used to like Teach for America. It sounded so promising, so good. And if you think about it, so do a lot of other programs that send privileged kids off to be great “helpers”. In fact, many of these forms of bad aid are rooted in paternalism, often because the people who lead them … Read more

Who you live with, who you choose to be friends with, will affect you a LOT. So when I’m looking at study abroad programs, … Read more

Trying not to be just a “product guy/girl”

If I’m interested in technology, I better understand it from all sides. I don’t want to be one of those obnoxious non-technical people who have never even tried to understand what their colleagues do. So here I am, working on a web design portfolio project as the work day in CST (that’s “college student time”) … Read more
